Moana: Why the ocean became a character

When the Moana creative team was in the Pacific Islands, John said, “people talked about the ocean as if it were alive, and they caressed it and they had these personal relationships with the ocean.” They knew they had to bring the ocean to life as a character and Moana allowed them to do just that.
